Remembrance Day service
As the clock ticked over to 11.00 am the whole school fell silent to remember those who gave their lives, and others who have fought, and are fighting on behalf of Australia to help bring peace to the world.
The commemoration service commenced with the Welcome to Country by students Alana Weetra and Shontae Kartinyeri. This was followed by the Murray Bridge High School Band and Drumline playing Waltzing Matilda. MC Paula Hahesy then introduced Malcolm McInernery, Manager of the Premier’s Anzac Spirit School Prize to make a presentation to Sakinah Karras, one of 16 students from around South Australia to receive this prize. The prize includes a fully funded trip to Darwin and Canberra to explore a part of Australia’s war history. Sakinah then spoke about her research encouraging all Year 9 and Year 10 students to get involved in this annual competition. Paul van Deth, Senior History teacher then spoke about the significance of Remembrance Day.
We welcomed Darren Lutze on his trumpet to play both the Last Post and also Reveille. Wreaths were laid on behalf of the staff and students of Murray Bridge High School by Sakinah Karras, Charli Duffield and Riley Fischer laid a wreath for the Independent Learning Centre and Joshua Creamer and teacher Kevin Coulter laid a wreath for the Inclusive Education Centre.
The flags were very capably attended to by students of the ELO class. After the singing of the National Anthem students were dismissed and returned to class.
